[updated February 2026]
Probably the most iconic Mexican dish, tacos are small tortillas filled with meat and/or vegetables in myriads of combinations, often accompanied by fresh pico de gallo and salsas. The most famous Mexican tacos include tacos al pastor (rotisserie pork with pineapple), arrachera (beef flank), and suadero (beef brisket). This article guides you through the best tacos in Tulum, featuring authentic restaurants using fresh and local ingredients.
Taquería Honorio
It can be tricky to navigate the many taquerías of the centre of Tulum, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. Taquería Honorio differentiates itself from the rest by offering an authentic taco experience with fresh, quality ingredients and strict hygiene.
Menu
The menu features tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and guacamole. All the classics, no frills. The filling options are typical of the Yucatán and include pork, turkey, chicken, and veggie mixes. You can buy tacos by the unit, therefore I recommend trying a combination (my favourite is cochinita pibil) together with one of their fresh waters – a Mexican staple. Tacos start at 22 pesos (1€) the unit.
Practical Tips
This is a popular lunch spot: expect a queue and lots of locals. Give your name to the staff at the entrance upon arrival then wait in line. Arrive no later than 13:00, or you may be left with some items off the menu!
Taqueria La 86
This new tacos spot was created by a renown chef of Tulum, in Aldea Zama. It pairs authentic flavours and recipes with a laidback atmosphere. Perfect for an easy and flavourful meal while exploring the area or before a night out! Tacos start at 60 pesos (3€) per unit.
Menu
Here you’ll find all the classic Mexican tacos, from Al Pastor to Arracherra, with delicious homemade sauces and drinks. Check their full menu here.
La Norteña
This outdoor spot is tucked away in La Veleta, and it’s super laid-back, a real local hangout. La Norteña is all about authentic northern-style barbacoa, with tender, slow-cooked beef and handmade tortillas. According to visitors, it feels more “flavour over flash.”
Menu
They specialize in barbacoa de res — think rich cuts like cheek or ribeye — served with house-made salsas and fresh tortillas.
Las Cazuelas
This casual taquería is located in Tulum Centro on Avenida Tulum, and it’s known for its charcoal-cooked tacos and laid-back outdoor feel.
Menu
You’ll find a variety of tacos — carne asada, pastor, arrachera, even veggie options — plus quesadillas, alambres and more. They also have aguas frescas, beers, and sauces to mix and match.
Practical Tips
Las Cazuelas is a true local favourite, so expect a steady crowd at lunchtime. The restaurant follows a “when it’s gone, it’s gone” approach: they close as soon as the day’s cazuelas are finished, usually around 15:00, so it’s best to arrive early.
La Cordobesita (Vegan Tacos)
La Cordobesita is a vegan tacos food truck. Originally from Argentina, the owners have specialised in the art of vegan Mexican delicacies. It’s a popular spot for tourists and locals, located in several tacos hotspots around town.
Menu
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of street food, including: tacos, quesadillas. and tortas with various fillings. They also serve pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, as well as a range of drinks and desserts. Everything is 100% plant-based.
Practical Tips
The food truck opens at 6PM until 2AM or until stock finishes. On weekends and during high season, it’s likely that stock will finish around 1AM. This spot is perfect for an after-party snack.
That’s it! These are the best tacos in Tulum for authenticity, taste, and freshness. Put your hands at work and let the sauce drip down your fingers for the full experience. Let me know if you try any of them!
