Tulum is a charming coastal town in Mexico known for its stunning beaches, wellness community, and vibrant party scene. It’s easy to get lost in the countless amount of high-end restaurants and miss the opportunity of enjoying delicious authentic Mexican food. Since moving to Tulum, I have been looking for the best local culinary experiences. In this blog post, I highlight my favourite restaurants in Tulum that offer the finest authentic Mexican meals – no frills, low budget, but plenty of luscious flavours.
Deli Fresh
Deli Fresh is a small, family-run restaurant in the town of Tulum with a menu featuring traditional Mexican food: chiles rellenos, quesadillas, aguachiles, guacamole, … The dishes are prepared with the freshest ingredients. The restaurant also has a large selection of aguas frescas to choose from.
La Suculenta
La Suculenta is a vegan Mexican restaurant in the centre of town (probably my favourite!). It specialises in tamales, those delicious warm cakes made of cornflour, veggies, beans, rice, and spices. Feels like a special treasure. They also have super tasty tacos and enchiladas!
Las Cazuelas
An authentic, no frills style of Mexican cuisine made of “cazuelas”, slow-cooked Mexican dishes which they serve in handmade tortillas. The restaurant is run by a local family who has been there for many years. It’s a very popular place for locals.
Mil Amores
Mil Amores is a popular eatery in Tulum that serves classic Mexican dishes. The restaurant has a diverse menu that features tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, and other traditional Mexican dishes. The restaurant is in the centre of Tulum, strategically located at the crossing of many other iconic restaurants, bars, and shops.
El Rincón de la Tía
El Rincón de la Tía is an old-school Mexican restaurant that has been serving locals and visitors for decades. The menu features traditional Mexican dishes, such as tacos al pastor, chilaquiles, and tamales. It also offers delicious drinks and salsas. The restaurant is located on the road to Tulum, perfect for a quick stop after a hot day visiting neighbouring cenotes or the Mayan ruins.
If you’re looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican experience in Tulum, then be sure to check out these three great restaurants. They all offer amazing, fresh Mexican cuisine that will make your mouth water, at very affordable prices and with excellent service.
