Where to Shop in Athens: 5 Treasure Trove Boutiques

Athens isn’t just a pile of ancient ruins and lively tavernas, it’s also a paradise for design lovers, collectors, and thoughtful gift-givers. Whether you’re seeking handmade ceramics, independent fashion, or books with a local twist, the Greek capital is bursting with stylish spots worth wandering into. In this guide, I’ll take you through my personal favourites, hidden gems and beautiful concept stores that celebrate contemporary Greek creativity. Forget the fridge magnets: these are places where you’ll want to take your time, chat with the shop owners, and perhaps even leave with a piece of Athens that tells a story.

Artful living in Plaka

Nestled in one of the most picturesque corners of Plaka, Nomad Concept Store is a serene escape from the city’s buzz. This boutique feels like a home curated by a very stylish friend with minimalist ceramics, linen clothing in earthy tones, natural perfumes, and beautifully bound books. Everything here feels like it belongs in a calm, sunlit Athenian apartment.

The store champions Greek makers but also features pieces from European artisans who share the same aesthetic. I love that they focus on sustainability and timeless design over trends. It’s also a wonderful spot if you’re hunting for thoughtful, travel-friendly gifts that don’t scream “souvenir” but carry the spirit of Greece.

📍 Adrianou 59, Athina 105 56, Greece

Athens’ coolest creative hub

If you love modern art, zines, and subculture, then Hyper Hypo will make your heart beat faster. This hybrid bookstore and design shop is hidden in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Psyrri and oozes urban cool.

Inside, you’ll find shelves stacked with art theory, architecture journals, political essays, and quirky children’s books, many in Greek, but a good selection in English too. The vibe is Berlin meets Athens: raw concrete, pops of colour, and graphic design galore. They also stock prints, posters, and clever stationery you won’t find elsewhere. I’ve spent hours browsing here, always walking out with something unexpected. Hyper Hypo is also a cultural space with talks, exhibitions, and community events, so check their calendar if you’re in town.

📍 Voreou 10, Athina 105 51, Greece

Design treasures

If you’re drawn to clean lines, warm woods, and  thoughtful design, then Modernon is a must-visit.

Tucked away in an alley of the vibrant Psirri district, this airy showroom feels like stepping into an impeccably styled home. Specialising in restored mid-century modern furniture from Greece and beyond, Modernon is a haven for vintage lovers and interior design enthusiasts.

From sleek armchairs to elegant credenzas and sculptural lighting, each piece tells a story and has been carefully restored to its former glory. The owners are passionate and knowledgeable, and happy to share details about the origin and craftsmanship behind each object. There’s also a selection of smaller items (ceramics, books, and decor) that make beautiful souvenirs or thoughtful gifts.

📍 Agias Irinis 3, 10551 Athens, Greece

Beauty meets storytelling

The Naxos Apothecary is where ancient Greek wellness meets high-end design. Inspired by the island of Naxos, this modern apothecary offers a dreamy collection of natural skincare, essential oils, and botanical teas, all packaged in chic glass bottles and minimalist boxes.

Their scents are subtle and evocative. You’ll find soaps, perfumes, tonics, and candles that feel luxurious but rooted in tradition. Even if you’re not planning to splurge, it’s worth visiting just to smell the fragrances and admire the interior, which feels like stepping into a minimalist temple.

📍 Kolokotreni 3-5, Athina 105 62, Greece

Art and crafts with vibes

T.A.F. (The Art Foundation) is one of those places that feels like a secret, until you realise it’s where all the cool Athenians hang out. Hidden behind an unmarked wooden door in the heart of Monastiraki, this multi-purpose space combines a concept store, art gallery, and all-day bar, all tucked around a beautiful 19th-century courtyard.

The design shop features a carefully curated selection of Greek-made goods: minimalist ceramics, jewellery, quirky homeware, and art books. Everything feels considered, with a balance of playfulness and sophistication. Beyond shopping, T.A.F. hosts rotating exhibitions in its upper rooms, showcasing work by emerging Greek artists. It’s the kind of space where you can browse, sip a cocktail, and chat with locals in the same afternoon.

📍 Normanou 5, Athina 105 55, Greec
